OUR STORY
It all started in the 4th grade…
Ryan and Tara met in Mrs. Carmen Shavers class at what was then known as Kennedy Elementary School in Texarkana, TX circa 1998. Ryan instantly had a huge crush on Tara. Tara, however, was so focused on being the first female president and didn’t really care about boys. The two became “sworn enemies”, as Tara was sort of a teacher’s pet and Ryan was (best friends with) the class clown. Ryan was a happy, joyful child (who found everything funny) and Tara was stern and serious and always got Ryan in trouble simply for laughing in class when the teacher stepped out of the room. Tara would be left to “take names” during Mrs. Shavers’ breaks and would often write Ryan’s name on the board before any violation had been committed. This was basically the only time Ryan ever really had to miss recess.
Fast forward to high school, Ryan and Tara both matured a bit and learned to at least get along as they had the same circle of friends and were involved in many of the same extra-curricular activities.
Fast forward again to college, Tara was at Longwood University in Virginia and Ryan was at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. They remained in the same inner-circles and would often find themselves at the same social gatherings during holiday breaks. One year, at a 2010 New Year’s Eve party in Texarkana, the undeniable fate began to set in. Ryan and Tara inadvertently spent the entire evening hanging out at the party and truly enjoying each other’s company. They each wondered to themselves if they were developing feelings, but both assumed it was just the party environment.
Fast forward yet again to 2012, the two casually kept in touch on social media. One day, Ryan sent a DM on Facebook that would ultimately change both of their lives for the better.
The rest, as they say, is history.
